The Hiring Process

Step One - Explore Our Job Opportunities

To view our current job opportunities visit the Apply Now page, choose the type of job for which you would like to apply - Support, Technical, or Professional Opportunities, or Jobs in the Spotlight (Special and Executive Recruitment) - and follow the application directions.  If you want to learn more about us, visit the We Are LAUSD page.
 

If you don’t see a job opportunity that interests you but you want to be notified of upcoming opportunities, sign up for Job Alerts to receive email notification of jobs that may be of interest.  We also highly encourage you to create a Candidate Profile in our application system so that we can match you to upcoming job opportunities.  To create a profile, log-in to our application system and from the candidate career start page, click on Create/Edit My Candidate Profile.

 

Step Two - Complete Profile and Apply for Job of Interest

Most of our jobs require you to apply using our application management system.   From the Apply Now page, choose Support, Technical, and Professional Jobs and then View Jobs and Apply to see a list of current job openings.  Click on the job posting to which you wish to apply, read the job posting thoroughly, and make sure you meet the requirements of the job.  Next, click on the Apply button.  Now that you are ready to apply, you will need to register and create a candidate profile or log-in to your existing profile.  Your candidate profile is your electronic resume.  The profile has a number of sections which you will need to complete or update.  Please allow at least 30 - 45 minutes to create a new profile.  Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email verifying that it has been received.

Step Three - Check Status of Application/Update Candidate Profile

Once you have applied for a job, you will be receiving correspondence about next steps via email.  You may also check your application status using our application system.  To do so, log-in to the system and from the candidate career start page, click on Status of My Applications.

 

We also encourage you to periodically update your candidate profile to ensure that we have your most current job history and most recent contact information.  Log-in to our application system and click on Create/Edit My Candidate Profile to update your profile.  Additionally, you will want to update your job interests using our Job Alert system as the information you maintain in the system is deleted once a year.

 

Step Four - Pre-Employment Assessment Process
The ability to hire highly qualified and successful employees is important to LAUSD.  Therefore, it is critical that we use comprehensive and highly predictive pre-employment assessment tools.  By using these tools, LAUSD can select employees who will have a high likelihood of being successful on the job.

Step Five - Interview with Hiring Department

Candidates placing on one of the top three ranks of our employment hiring list (eligibility list) may be considered for employment for the current job vacancy.  If you have placed on the top three ranks and the hiring department wishes to interview you, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment.  If you are not selected for the initial position, you may be considered for future positions within the same job classification.
 

To check your status on an active employment hiring list, log-in to our application system and from the candidate career start page, click on My Current Eligibility Information.

 

Step Six - Employment Offer

It you are selected, you will receive a tentative job offer made either by phone by a representative of our Classified Employment Services Branch, or by the school site with the job vacancy.  The representative making the offer will also work with you to schedule a pre-employment screening appointment.  Your offer of employment is contingent upon completion of our pre-employment screening process.

 

Step Seven - Pre-Employment Screening

Before you can start your new job, you will need to attend a pre-employment screening appointment during which you will visit one of our Employment Offices to complete all of your new-employee documents and fingerprinting.  A representative from your new work site or from our Employment Services Branch, will contact you to arrange your appointment time.  Learn more about our on-boarding process by visiting our New Employee Site.

 

Step Eight - Congratulations and Welcome On-Board
